Steve has an MSc in Engineering Geology, is a Fellow of the Geological Society and co‑founder of Lithos Consulting, with over 25 years’ experience as a specialist geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineer in the UK.
Steve has overall responsibility for design and project management of remediation and earthworks projects, and for provision of specialist geotechnical advice including slope stability analysis, working platform design, foundation bearing capacity and settlement assessment. He is also the nominated Director in charge of Health & Safety.
Steve regularly attends multidisciplinary project meetings involving landowners, project managers, developers, contractors and civil / structural engineers, and is also well-known and respected by regulators in the Yorkshire region.
Steve is experienced in the preparation and implementation of Materials Management Plans, designed to ensure that earthworks and soil movements are undertaken in accordance with the CL:AIRE Development Industry Code of Practice and therefore comply with UK environmental legislation.
Following graduation, Steve spent 10 years’ working in the ground investigation contracting sector, gaining experience in the geotechnical soils testing laboratory and on large site investigations including Heathrow Terminal 5, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, Crossrail and the decommissioning of Dounreay Nuclear Power Station.
Recent key projects include remediation of the 20-hectare former Vickers Tank Factory in Cross Gates, Leeds for Threadneedle Investments, prior to sale to a residential developer. Including treatment of hydrocarbon contaminated soils, stabilisation of shallow mineworkings and mine entries, and placement of engineered fill to a specification suitable to support new foundations.
